Tap Tap - Shhh!

by Tom Hooten

She stole his heart did Molly Holloway.
Up moonstruck tree, he taps her window this eve.
They dare not be caught at this child’s play.

Finger on her lips, Shhh!, but Please stay.
In her lacy gown of eager make-believe.
She stole his heart did Molly Holloway.

No kiss as yet, only tingling fingers fay.
He hears his heart pleading Don’t leave.
They dare not be caught at this child’s play.

Does she love him? Sweet Molly may.
Risk beckoning him in and her father deceive?
They dare not be caught at this child’s play.

Could a guileless glance his affection convey.
How may the yearnings of two dreams weave?
She stole his heart did Molly Holloway.

They know not what young lovers should say.
Their vague shared longings so naïve.
She stole his heart did Molly Holloway.
They dare not be caught at this child’s play.
